Early life and family
Kiran Bedi was born on June 9, 1949 in Amritsar, Punjab. Her father's
name is Shri Prakash Lal Peshawaria and her mother's name is Premlata Peshawaria. Kiran
Bedi's great Grand Father Lala Hargobind was a merchant and in 1860 he left
Peshawar and settled in Amritsar in the Punjab and adopted the name Peshwariya. Kiran Bedi's grandfather Lala Muni Lal was an influential figure in his entire
family and had a great influence on Kiran Bedi.
Prakash Lal and Premlata Bedi have four daughters named Shashi, Kiran, Rita, and Anu. All four of the girls are quite intelligent. Both of their parents were forward-thinking individuals.
They resolved to provide all four girls greater education and give them everything they desired at a time when girls were considered a burden owing to dowry. They had to overcome numerous challenges in order to do so. Kiran Bedi's Father Overcame all barriers to educate and train all four girls in higher education and athletics. Her father was an accomplished tennis player. He taught all four of his daughters how to play tennis and helped them become excellent players.
Kiran Bedi first met her future husband on the
tennis court and since then their knots have matched. Kiran Bedi's husband Brij
Bedi was also a university tennis player and a textile businessman by
profession. In March 1972, Kiran Bedi
married Brij Bedi. And in 1975, She got Kanyasukh. Her name is Saina. Kiran
Bedi's mother passed away in May 1999 and her husband Brij Bedi passed away in
January 2016.
Academic career
Kiran Bedi's academic career is highly commendable. In 1968, she
obtained her B.A. from Government College of Women, Amritsar. Edited the degree of She

very good tennis player. She started playing tennis with her sisters as a
teenager and in 1964 she played her first tournament. She won many competitions
at the national level.

Kiran Bedi continued her tennis
career till the age of 30. But at the same time, his preparation for the Indian
Police Competitive Examination was in full swing. Prior to joining the Indian
Police Service in 1970, she was a Professor of Political Science at Khalsa

She entered politics to continue her social service journey. She joined
the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2010 to
fight corruption. Later in 2015,She joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. After
Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, She decided to contest the Delhi Chief
Ministerial election.

Kiran Bedi has won the hearts of Indians with her work. She received

Norway for her outstanding achievements in the field of de-addiction. During

generation.
Retirement and assumption of office

Kiran Bedi retired voluntarily in 2007 after 35 years as the Director
General of Police in the Indian Police
Service. On 22 May 2016, Kiran Bedi was elected as the Governor of Pondicherry. Through her performance, Kiran
Bedi showed the whole world that anything can be achieved through hard work and
determination.
