Kanhere killed Jackson, an English officer. On Tuesday, December 9th, 1909, at Vijayanand Natyagriha in Nashik, he was shot and killed.

When Jackson became the Collector of Nashik, there was a big movement of freedom loving youth in Nashik. Savarkar's 'Abhinav Bharat' was the cause of it. The members of this organization were secretly expanding their organization with a pledge to sacrifice their lives for the freedom of the country. Besides, they were also carrying out some public awareness activities.

Inspired by Savarkar brothers and Madanlal Dhingra, Ananta decided to kill Nashik Collector Jackson.

The reason for this is said to be that Jackson was aware of the actions of the Abhinav Bharat Society, that had initiated the freedom movement. The arrest and imprisonment of Babarao Savarkar for producing a 16-page book of Kavi Govind's songs was the tipping point. Jackson played a major role in getting Babarao apprehended and prosecuted. In the first month of 1910, a group led by Krishnaji Karve decided to assassinate Jackson. By the end of 1909, however, Jackson had been appointed to Commissioner of Mumbai. Before Jackson's transfer, Krishnaji Karve, Vinayak Deshpande, and Anant Kanhere decided to assassinate him. Anant Kanhere was joined by Krishnaji Gopal Karve and Vinayak Narayan Deshpande. Jackson was transferred to a higher post in Mumbai. It was easier to kill him in Nashik. December 21st The play 'Sangeet Sharda' was staged at the Vijayanand Theater in Nashik in 1909 for Jackson's farewell ceremony.
Anant determined that now was the moment to put their plan into action. To avoid capture and safeguard his other associates, he accepted responsibility for Jackson's death and chose to commit suicide by poisoning. If Ananta's attempt failed, Vinayak was supposed to shoot Jackson as a backup plan. Karve was also carrying a firearm in case both of these failed. As Jackson was a fan of Marathi language and plays, Jackson attended a performance of 'Sangeet Sharda' on December 21, 1909. Anant jumped in front of him and shot four bullets at him. Jackson was immediately dead. Mr. Palshikar, a former DSP, and Mr. Marutrao Toradmal, one of the Indian officers, attacked Anant with his baton. Anant was caught by the people around him, and he was unable to shoot himself or get the poison. Anant Kanhere, who was 18 at the time, was charged in a Bombay court.

March 20 in 1910, all three were sentenced to death. All three were hanged in Thane Jail on April 19 in 1910. Ananta's memorial is in Thane Jail.

Collector of Nashik A.M.T. Anant Kanhere, who assassinated Jackson, became The Youngest Indian Revolutionary after Khudiram Bose.
