Vasudev Hari Chapekar 

Vasudev Hari Chafekar was a revolutionary in the Indian War of Independence.  He was the brother of Damodar Chapekar and Balkrishna Chapekar, Indian revolutionaries. Born in 1880 at Chinchwad in Pune district. He was educated in Marathi language. He participated in politics and revolutionary activities along with his brothers Damodar Chapekar and Balkrishna Chapekar. Trained Indian youth in weapons. Rand plotted his assassination for his misconduct in Pune. He was arrested and tried.  8th May 1899 He was hanged in Yerawada Jail.

Chapekar's father Haripant used to tell Harikatha in Pune and Mumbai. As a result, the education of the Chapekar brothers was disrupted. As a child, all three brothers used to help their father in Hari Kirtan.

                 Inspired by the political developments in Pune, he turned to the movement. He was vehemently opposed to the Consent Age Bill introduced by the British. Tilak had started attacking the British who were interfering in Indian culture. This appeal inspired all three brothers. He organized the people. At the same time, the British summoned Walter Charles Rand to India because of the plague in Pune. A session of atrocities began in the name of preventing Rand's plague. Rand drew public discontent by trampling on social norms. This created hatred in the minds of the Chapekar brothers against the British. He planned to take revenge this time.

 At that time, the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria's coronation was being celebrated. Lighting was everywhere. Also a banquet was organized. Damodar Chapekar got out of the car and while waiting at Ganesh Khind, he came out of his residence at midnight on June 22, 1897 and fired a shot at Rand. Rand remained in a coma for some time and later died on July 3, 1897.

                 At the same time, Damodar's brother Balkrishna shot at Lieutenant Iris, who was sitting with Rand. Although the Chafekar brothers managed to escape, all three brothers were later captured. Damodar was arrested in Mumbai and hanged on 18 April 1898.Subsequently, Vasudev was hanged on 8 May 1899 and Balkrishna on 16 May 1899.Chafekar brothers became martyrs for the country.
